Canadian exposure notification application is out!

COVID Alert was released on July 31st. The app is meant to help us break the cycle of infection by letting people know of possible exposures before any symptoms appear. COVID Alert does not use GPS or track location information.

I am delighted to be joining the COVID-19 Exposure Notification App Advisory Council that will ensure the app meets the highest standards in public health outcomes, technology, and privacy. The Council includes people with various expertise and perspectives including health, privacy, data governance, science, and innovation.

The COVID Alert app privacy policy, Health Canada and the Canadian Digital Service privacy assessment of the COVID Alert app, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada privacy review of the COVID Alert exposure notification application, and the recommendations of the Ontario privacy commissioner in relation to this app are available online for everyone’s review.

You can also listen to the The LawBytes Podcast, Episode 63: Ontario Privacy Commissioner Patricia Kosseim on the COVID Alert App for additional information.

You can download the COVID Alert today although it is not yet available in all provinces.
