Two privacy books have recently been released:

  1. Law, Privacy and Surveillance in Canada in the Post-Snowden Era

This book was authored by Michael Geist. From the effectiveness of accountability and oversight programs to the legal issues raised by metadata collection to the privacy challenges surrounding new technologies, this book explores current issues torn from the headlines with a uniquely Canadian perspective.

  1. eGirls, eCitizens

eGirls, eCitizens is edited by Jane Bailey and Valerie Steeves. It reframes topics such as online child pornography, online luring, cyberbullying and non-consensual disclosure of intimate images in ways that make space for more equitable and empathetic responses, rather than polarized utopic/dystopic debate. The collection analyzes the equality, privacy and gender performativity implications of the digital environment and its impacts on girls’ online participation; assesses the ways in which stakeholders construct girls in theoretical, policy and educational discourses; and suggests future approaches and best practices that are premised on girls’ own understandings of their needs and aspirations in an increasingly digitized society.
